Oakdale Cottages is situated on a farm with lots of animals such as geese, chickens, sheep, donkeys and cows. These animal do make some noise some or other time and if you don’t have a liking in these noises or animals, this will not be the place for you to stay!.. The Cocks do crow early in the mornings, and it is just part of the farm stay.
We also make use of the Korrentepoort Dam water that is from our mountains and comes with supply through canals to our Farm. The water has a brownish colour, but please be assure that the water is definitely clean and healthy for human intake and has no added chemicals to it.
Riversdale (Afrikaans: Riversdal) is a town located on the N2 highway between Cape Town and George on the Agulhas Coastal Plain of the southern Western Cape province of South Africa. It is an agricultural service oriented town, being a hub for shopping and other services for surrounding farming communities, smaller towns, and coastal resorts, like Witsand and Stilbaai. It is located beneath the imposing Langeberg Mountains to the north, with Sleeping Beauty Mountain overlooking the town.
The town was founded as a church on the farm, Doornkraal, and was subsequently named after Harry Rivers, the then incumbent Civil Commissioner of Swellendam. It was proclaimed a town on 30 August 1838. Riverdale is the seat of the Hessequa Local Municipality. It is also sometimes considered the westernmost point in the Garden Route region
Heritage and culture Julius Gordon African Centre (Versveld House), built in 1880, houses the largest collection of Thomas Bowler paintings in South Africa. Included in the permanent exhibition are works by Jan Volschenk and Johannes Meintjies (both natives of Riversdal), Irma Stern, Pierneef, Maggie Loubser, Gregoire Boonzaaier and many more. The Africana Centre also features Khoisan rock paintings and stone implements, Africana furniture of the region and the history of Riversdale.
